Lavender Oil
Lavender oils may be greenish-yellow or colorless essential oils with a sweet fragrance. Lavender Oil comprises of linalool, cumarin, borneol, geraniol, camphor, linalyl acetate and furfurol. Lavender oils have got antimicrobial property and are produced by distilling spikes or flowers of some particular Lavender species. Two distinct types are available, Lavender Flower Oil and Lavender Spike Oil. They differ from each other in terms of density as well as solubility.
Lavender oil is a blend of different natural products. Lavender Oils find its use in preparation of perfume and also in Aromatherapy.Lavender oil when applied on body creates a soothing effect that helps in relaxation of the body as well as the mind and it reduces anxieties. When mixed with water, in definite proortion, Lavender oils can help in curing head ache. Inhaling lavender oils can help in the treatment of cough and respiratory problems. It can even be used as a mosquito repellent. In diluted or undiluted condition Lavender Oils can be also used for the treatment of lice. Some artists prefer mixing lavender spike oils with paints as it minimizes the unpleasant odor of the paints.
Lavender Oils can act as a pain reliever as well as an antiseptic to treat insect bites and burns that are not severe. To produce healing action for muscular pains or chest pains Lavender oils can also be a good option. Intake of Lavender is prohibited as Lavender is also known for causing allergy. Lavender Oils can also be used for treatment of eczema and fungal infections. Lavender Oil when mixed with Carrier Oil in a definite proportion can also be used as an ailment for sunstroke or sunburn. Though there is a popular notion that Lavender Oil may find its use even in easing parturition or labor but researches prove that it can only create a calm, soothing effect and nothing more than that. Researches are also being conducted to find out if Lavender Oil has any role in treatment of different types of cancer.
Lavender Oil may induce Gynecomastia , a condition where young boys develop enlarged breasts. Researches reveal, application of some shampoo or oil comprising of Lavender Oils may be the cause behind this. This is because of the fact that lavender Oils have some common ingredients that are found in female hormones. The initial condition can be regained as soon as one stops using products containing lavender oils.
